Standing For & Celebrating Pride

When we talk about security and actually feeling secure and protected, we always come back to the same phrase: security for all. That’s what Kangaroo is about; we want to make sure that protection is not a luxury, that it isn’t just for certain people, but really for everyone. But security for all goes beyond your home security or your Doorbell Camera or any other gadgets that keep you safe in one way or another. Security for all translates to ensuring security in your own skin. It’s about walking out of your home, whomever you are, and being whomever you are confidently and proudly. That’s why we’re committed to a culture of diverse individuals, no matter who you are, where you’re from, what your pronouns are, how you identify, or who you love.

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate this purposeful inclusivity and an opportunity to look back and acknowledge moments in the world that unfortunately didn’t embrace inclusivity. This month, we’re placing an emphasis on recognizing our history, remembering the folx who led uprisings against police brutality and violence at Stonewall more than 50 years ago. Ever since Pride began as a single-day commemoration in 1970, marches and parades have been part of the event. From their origins as a memorial to their current incarnation as colorful celebrations, Pride parades remember the past while serving as acts of resistance against those seeking to strip the LGBTQIA+ community of the rights it has fought so hard to gain. We are educating ourselves and our allies on systemic racism, appropriation, and other injustices that live within the LGBTQIA+ community, and determining actions we can take to ensure long-lasting change.

While we’re celebrating and standing with the LGBTQIA+ community this Pride Month, we want to make this clear: each and every day before and after June, we stand to support a diverse and ever-welcoming value of security for ALL. We stand to support the LGBTQIA+ community and in our roots and in our blood, we believe protection and feeling secure in your own sexuality, community, and life, is for all.
